It’s unclear how lists, identifying former GITMO detainees as “returned terrorists,” are made?

Honduras coupsters’ big fat Cuban exile family By Dr. Néstor García Iturbe

16-Jul-09

According to the criteria of these people, who acted in coordination with the extreme U.S. right wing in the Pentagon and the CIA, it was necessary to impede at all costs any further movement by Zelaya’s government toward the left, since that represented a danger to the ‘National Security of the United States.’ The fastest and most effective remedy at that time was the coup d’etat.

U.S. Press Misses Honduran Official’s Racist Assault on U.S. Prez By Steve Rendall

16-Jul-09

Using the word ‘negrito,’ a well-recognized and profoundly racist epithet, whose literal translation means ‘little black man’ or ‘little black boy,’ Ortez referred to Obama as ‘that little black boy who knows nothing about nothing’ ['ese negrito que no sabe nada de nada'] and ‘a little black man who doesn’t know where Tegucigalpa is’ ['el negrito, no conoce donde queda Tegucigalpa'].

Cynthia McKinney and Charles Barron Enter Gaza on Relief Convoy By BAR Editors

16-Jul-09

After days of maddening delays by Egyptian and U.S. authorities, on Wednesday the Viva Palestine US caravan crossed from Egypt into the Gaza strip, home to 1.5 million besieged Palestinians. Former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, New York City Councilman Charles Barron and Dead Prez rapper M-1 are among the 200 delegates who attempted to deliver hundreds of thousands of dollars in humanitarian aid. The Egyptians, who control the only non-Israeli entrance to Gaza, at the town of Rafah, reportedly prevented the activists from delivering some of the 47 vehicles purchased.

Honduras: Coup Leaders Hire Top Democrat Lobbyists to Justify Their De Facto Government By Eva Golinger

16-Jul-09

The coup government has hired top-notch Democrat lobbyists in Washington to make their case before Congress and the White House and convince the US people to recognize them as a legitimate government. The New York Times has confirmed that Clinton lobbyist Lanny Davis, former Special Counsel for President Bill Clinton from 1996-1998, and close advisor to Hillary’s campaign for president last year, has been hired by the Latin American Business Council — an ultraconservative group of Latin American businesses — to represent the coup leaders in the U.S.

The Honduran Coup, the Media and Obama The African World By Bill Fletcher, Jr.

16-Jul-09

While the response to the coup by the Obama administration was at first glance admirable, i.e., a condemnation of the coup and a failure to recognize the usurpers, there remain some very strange aspects to the events. First, the US government knew that the coup was being plotted. Various sources report that the US did not support the coup and would not give their blessing. So far so good, but the obvious question is this: then why did the Obama administration not notify Zelaya’s forces so that they could arrest the coup people on grounds of treason?

Obama Visits Africa’s “Oil Gulf” By Emira Woods

16-Jul-09

With heightened interest in Africa’s oil, the U.S. has moved to strengthen its military (and naval) presence in Africa’s “Oil Gulf”. In October 2008, the U.S. Africa Command was officially established. Transplanting a framework from the Middle East, U.S. military assets would be aimed at securing Africa’s oil, and seeking so-called “terrorists”. The U.S. Africa Command claims
to “help Africans help themselves”. The Command lists humanitarian missions like dental clinics, building of schools, wells, etc. What is more opaque is the intent to train and arm proxy militaries that can secure and sustain the ever-present fix for the United States’ addiction to fossil fuels.

From WW II To WW III: Global NATO And Remilitarized Germany By Rick Rozoff Part 2

16-Jul-09

With military deployments and interventions in Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia from at least as early as 1995-2001 onward, the German Bundeswehr had crossed a barrier, violated a taboo and established a new precedent that paralleled the remilitarization of the Rhineland in 1936, the latter in flagrant contravention of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles.

Eva Golinger: Washington and the Coup in Honduras: Here’s the evidence!

16-Jul-09

From the first day the coup occurred, Washington has referred to “both parties” involved and the necessity for “dialogue” to restore constitutional order, legitimizing the coup leaders by regarding them as equal players instead of criminal violators of human rights and democratic principles. The US Department of State has refused to legally classify the events in Honduras as a “coup d’etat,” nor has it suspended or frozen its economic aid or commerce to Honduras, and has taken no measures to effectively pressure the de facto regime.
